Volkswagen has announced the 2.7% price hike for the Polo and the Vento and the Polo will now come with additional features. The price hike is effective from February 1, 2014. The carmaker is giving the same reason of the weak rupee and the rising costs of inputs on manufacturing. The company also said that it will now offer the Polo hatch with driver and passenger airbags as standard equipment on all variants.

The company also said that the Comfortline variant of Polo will come with ABS as standard. Mr. Arvind Saxena, MD of Volkswagen Passenger Cars said, “We are proud to be leading the cause of driver safety, and we believe the introduction of airbags as standard fitment across all variants of the Polo is a major step forward in the context of safety. Once again, this step underlines our commitment to producing better cars – and better-equipped cars – for the discerning Indian consumer. Input costs have steadily increased over the last few months, and exchange rate movements have not been favorable”
