Fiat could reveal the new Punto Abarth hatchback at the Indian Auto Expo in 2014. We have been hearing about the test mules of the car being spotted in India and it is quite certain that the launch could be in the first half of 2014! The Abarth Punto will be sharing space with the upcoming Jeep SUVs via Fiat. The Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Grand Cherokee are also due for its launch in India.

The Punto Abarth is essentially the more powerful version of the regular Punto – it will be offered in the similar 1.4-litre petrol turbocharged motor like the Linea but retuned. The claimed time to reach the 100kph mark is less than 8 seconds.

The styling and the looks of the Punto Abarth are much different and robust than the regular Punto or even the Punto 90HP. The Abarth Punto will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and the new design updates include 17-inch alloys, Abarth decals and sporty paintjobs. We can now expect nearly every carmaker to step in the performance car segment – we have already seen Toyota get its powerful Etios Liva TRD Sportivo and VW’s Polo GT TSI performance cars in India.
