After withdrawing its share from US market, the Japanese auto giant Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) seems fully focused on prospective Asian market as the company is gradually making big steps in this region. In the same vein, the largest subsidiary of Suzuki, Maruti India is planning to expand its operations in the country. Following the twin plants philosophy of Haryana operations, Maruti is now set to establish two facilities in the state of Gujarat also.

As per reports, SMC chairman Osamu Suzuki is planned to visit India on January 24 and 25 in order to finalize the Gujarat plans. While Maruti has already been allotted 700 acres land in Mehsana, Gujarat, company is now acquiring another 480-acres land at Ughroz and Ukarade villages from farmers in the state. Aimed to set up a 2.5 lakh units capacity plant, Maruti plans to expand a whooping amount of Rs. 4, 000 crore in the first phase of its operations.

According to Mr. R.C. Bhargava, with five plants in Haryana, company finds no scale of spreading out there, so here is a plan to set up twin facility in Gujarat too. Initially being developed with 2.5 lakh capacity, the plant will be further expanded with the market demand in the country. Acquisition of land has been started, so as to curtail any adverse effects of increasing land prices in Gujarat, which has already been rising there, said a top executive.

It looks like; Maruti is focusing on land purchase so as to fulfil future demands in Asia market. As far as location of these new plants is concerned, both of them will be situated around 100 km from Ahmedabad and will be within 300 km limit of Mundra port, which will help Maruti to step up its long-term export plans.
