The prospectiveness of Indian market can’t be denied and same is gradually being proved by auto giants from abroad, broadening their foothold in India after China and USA. In the same vein, Ford India is planning to make India, a larger export hub for its models. And for that part, company will start production at its Sanand unit located in Gujarat by 2014. According to Joginder Singh, President and Managing Director at Ford India, with the commission of this newly developed plant, Ford’s outlay in India will be $ 2 billion and around $1 billion will be only for Gujarat plant.

Joginder Singh said "With 4,000 workers, working at Sanand’s ground, the project is going extremely well and this facility will include the task of engine manufacturing, stamping, body paint and assembly operations for vehicles. The existing Chennai plant and this newly developed plant have joint production capacity of 3 million units and same will be increased up to 5 million by mid-decade and 9 million by the year 2020. Moreover, with 10,000 jobs already created in Chennai, Ford will offer around 5,000 job opportunities after the commencement of Sanand plant."

As far as products diversification and network expansion are concerned, Ford aims to bring in 8 new models by mid decade. And moreover dealerships will also be increased from 125 to 250 by next year and 500 by mid-decade. According to Singh, Ford India will itself approach customers and rather than focusing on only in metro cities, company will go in to tier-2 and 3 cities to gather large customer’s base.

Singh said "Diesel vehicles share in overall sales have been gradually raising, so instead of imposing any tax on diesel vehicles, government should come up with some subsidies on them. In terms of Ford’s expectation of global sales, Singh said that with 5.3 million vehicles sold in 2010, company now hopes to take this number up to 8 million by 2015. While Asia Pacific region contributes around 70% of this sale, company aims that by 2020, one out of six cars sold in this area will be a Ford model."
