Tata Motors are bending their back to keep the Nano brand in tune with the market happenings and the news of Nano being fitted with a more powerful 800cc engine is a step in right direction. World’s cheapest car, Tata Nano will be soon getting a new heart and even diesel motor is under consideration.

The small car hasn’t been able to really kick off in style and the November figures are more concerning than ever as the Nano sales hit a new low with 3,500 units only as against a set target of 10,000 units. Known faces with the development project say that refurbished Nano will make way by the end of next year and it would be priced around Rs 2.5 lakh.

Market experts express that the attempt of incorporating diesel engine would definitely grip the falling sales of Nano but the brand positioning of the car in the minds of customer could serve a restraint. Tata Motors are, however in no mood to discontinue the deteriorating 624cc engine in Nano. There are auto professionals that doubt the success of the Nano makeover in the market widely ruled by global brands.

Tata Group Chairman last week said that Tata Nano not performing up to the marks is due to the fact that company wasn’t able to promote the car it should have done. Listing the issues he said initially ‘The People’s Car’ lost the momentum due to various concerns like plant relocation and sub-advertising campaign.
